Spring Break Hodgepodge

Spring Break 2009 is drawing to a close.  The kids are sad.  Mom is glad.  Usually I like the break, but it really snuck up on me this year, and I wasn't mentally prepared for them to be home and at their fighting best.

We followed the Samoli pirate saga as it unfolded at the beginning of the break.  The whole situation was very tense and serious, but as usual, we managed to find some humor in it.  The whole idea of pirates in a lifeboat facing off against a U.S. warship or two  makes you wonder what the pirates are using for brains.  The radio announced one day that the pirates had called for reinforcements.  This thought entertained us all day.  Is there a specific number to call, like 911?  Assuming that the reinforcements would be pirates too, why would you trust them?  Wouldn't you be afraid they'd just rob you of the plunder they just helped you hold onto?  Why would you want help from anyone stupid enought to answer this call for help:  "Uhm, we're in a lifeboat with a hostage and a couple of machine guns, and we need some help holding off a U.S. Warship."?  Anyway, we were very happy to hear that the captain was rescued unharmed.  Maybe they'll make the pirate that was taken alive walk the plank off the back of the warship.

I read an interesting article about the financial state of YouTube.  Sounds like it might be in trouble.  While there is some really interesting and entertaining stuff on the site, there's a lot of really inane, stupid things, things that are copyright violations, and things that are in downright bad taste.  So I can see where some advertisers might think twice about supporting the site.

I was so disgusted last night by Survivor...I wanted Coach to get voted off so bad I could taste it.  If I have to hear one more rendition of his line about "so and so is the dragon, and I'm the dragonslayer" I think I'll scream.  And calling himself 'the chosen one'---blech!  I can't wait until someone blindsides him big time.  I don't like TJ the 'professional cyclist' either, and he is Coach's right hand man.  At the moment, I'm rooting for JT to wini, but I think he might be just a little to naive to make it to the end.

This is the first year I've watched American Idol (yeah I know, it's season 8, what can I say) other than an odd episode here or there.  I'm really finding it enjoyable.  My money's on Adam Lambert to win.  What I find hard to believe is that Lil is still there.  She needs to be voted out, and soon.  I also like Danny Gokey and Kris Allen, but I don't think they'll win.

Ditto on everything you said about Coach, Deb. I can't stand that guy. And I want Allison to win Idol, though I think Lambert is a lock.

And I read that surviving pirate, the one who turned himself in and asked to go over to the U.S. ship, is only 16 years old.
